MOSCOW, September 8 (Itar-Tass) - Chechnya has registered the highest voter turnout on Russia’s single voting day. At 18:00 Moscow time it reached 87.09%, a member of the Central Election Commission, Valery Kryukov, said on Sunday.

The Republic of Kalmykia situated south of the Volga on the northwestern shores of the Caspian Sea comes second with the voter turnout of 38.76%. Around 29.08% of voters came to cast their ballots in the Ulyanovsk region on the Volga river, 26.47% - in the Yaroslavl region located 250 km northeast of Moscow and 24.03% - in the Ivanovo region located about 300 km northeast of Moscow.

Arkhangelsk region in northwestern Russia reports the lowest voter turnout of 19.61%.
