Cop shoots cat, faces five years in prison

KIROV, August 9 (Itar-Tass) – Kirov region driver of local police car fleet has shot a cat with an air gun. According to the shooter, the animal was blocking his vehicle. The suspect is now looking at five years in prison according to hooliganism article under the criminal code, senior assistant to the head of the local Investigation Department Andrey Vasilkov told Itar-Tass.

According to the police report, the driver stopped his car, exited the vehicle, took his “Ataman” scoped pneumatic rifle from the trunk and shot the cat, violently disturbing public peace.

The cat’s owner witnessed the shooting. The perpetrator fled from the scene, but was detained by valiant efforts of the local residents. “Before police officers arrived at the scene he tried bribing the owner of the injured feline with 100 thousand rubles hoping to be let go,” said the spokesman. Press service of the local police department stated that after an internal investigation the driver was fired; a criminal investigation has been initiated.
