Medvedev greets workers of railroad transport on their Day

MOSCOW, August 4 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev sent his greetings to workers and veterans of the country’s railroad transport on their professional Day, which has been celebrated annually since 1896.

“Effective development of the railroad industry is a strategic priority for this big country,” the telegram reads. “On it depend smooth communication between regions, reliable deliveries of passengers and cargo, implementation of the country’s transit potential and the general growth of the country’s economic competitiveness, improvement of the defence.”

The government has been doing a lot for the sector - it is involved in modernisation of the transport and logistics infrastructures, attraction of investments in construction of new high-speed lines, it pays ongoing attention to security at railroad transport, the telegram reads.
