Natalia Gherman: Moldovan population backs European integration

Moldova's Foreign Minister said that at the Eastern Partnership summit Moldova is planning to initiate the EU Association Agreement

MOSCOW, July 24 (Itar-Tass) - Moldova’s European integration is the sovereign choice that the population backed, Moldovan Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman said.

“At the Eastern Partnership summit Moldova is planning to initiate the EU Association Agreement, which also implies the creation of a free trade zone. This is the final stage of the process that we’re realizing with the EU within the three years,” Gherman said.

“In parallel we’re holding talks on the visa liberalization. During the talks, we’re achieved progress. Thus, we hope that our colleague will give a positive assessment,” she said.

Gherman noted that European integration would allow the republic to make political, economic and social changes in order to turn Moldova into a modern European state. “When we talk about European integration we hope that citizens, who live in our breakaway region, would be involved in the process,” the minister said.

“This is the optimal way for progress,” Gherman added.
