KRASNOYARSK, July 17 (Itar-Tass) - The Berezovsky district court in the Krasnoyarsk territory on Wednesday sanctioned the arrest of the driver who caused a fatal road accident overnight to July 16, regional police spokesman Vladimir Yurchenko told Itar-Tass.
The 23-year-old driver will remain in custody for the period of the investigation until September 17. When making the decision, the court took into account the fact that the suspect had a criminal conviction and fled the scene after the accident.
Police detained him in the town of Sosnovoborsk, 30 kilometers from the crash site.
Among the victims are two children and their mothers who are sisters. The fifth fatality is one of the passengers of the car. Another two passengers were hospitalized. According to preliminary reports, they were in a state of alcoholic intoxication.
The road accident occurred five kilometers from the village of Yesaulovo, Berezovsky district at 01:00, local time /21:00, Moscow time/. The driver of a Toyota lost control of his vehicle and ran over four pedestrians. The car then slipped into a ditch and hit a concrete obstacle.
