MOSCOW, April 17 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s off-parliament opposition forces held an action of protest in Moscow Wednesday night to support the nonconformist blogger Alexei Navalny.
The action brought together about 1,500 people, including radical opposition celebrities like Lyudmila Alexeyeva, the chairperson of Moscow Helsinki Group, Konstantin Jankauskas, a deputy of the city’s Zyuzino municipality, and Yevgenia Chirikova, a member of the Coordination Council of Opposition Forces.
Alexei Navalny was not the only person whose name was pronounced at the meeting. The participants also recalled other people whom they consider to be political prisoners.
The oppositionists chanted the demands to dismiss the chairman of the Investigations Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, and Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika.
A resolution of the meeting that was read out by human rights activist Lev Ponomaryov spoke of the importance of “an unconditional release of all the illegally arrested and convicted people, an immediate end to political repressions, a repealing of anti-Constitutional laws, and a revocation of amassed inspections in the offices of nongovernmental organizations.”
No accidents were registered in the course of the action.
