PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 18 (Itar-Tass) —— The dome of the volcano Plosky Tolbachik in Kamchatka did not explode, “no extraordinary events” took place in the eruption of the volcano, the press service of the Kamchatka territorial emergency situation department told Itar-Tass at 09:50 Moscow time on Tuesday.
The Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Far Eastern branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences confirmed this news report to Itar-Tass. A representative of the institute noted that “the eruption continues as before.”
Thus, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations and scientists rejected some media reports about the explosion of the volcano dome.
The volcano has been erupting ash at a height of up to three kilometres for the last few days. The most powerful eruption, which broke out on November 27 after 36 years of dormition, continues. The warning was earlier issued over the hazard of ash emissions for the airplanes.
