Russia’s President Vladimir Putin greeted composer Rodion Shchedrin on his 80th birthday

MOSCOW, December 16 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s President Vladimir Putin greeted composer Rodion Shchedrin on his 80th birthday.

“You are rightly considered an outstanding contemporary composer, a brilliant representative of the famous constellation of Masters of the national and world culture. Your works created in a variety of genres, styles and trends are famous for different musical emphasis, special refinement and unique, recognisable author's style,” the president said in his greeting, the text of which is posted on the Kremlin’s website. “I wish you good health and inspiration. Please pass my warmest regards to your wife - unsurpassed Maya Plisetskaya."

The president issued a decree saying that for his contribution to development of national musical culture and for many years of creative activity Rodion Shchedrin is awarded the Order "For Services to the Fatherland" of the IV degree.
