Putin says additional support to single mothers possible

He said that the programme of support for parents with a third child in regions with a low birth rate will become operational next year

MOSCOW, December 10 (Itar-Tass) —— President Vladimir Putin said additional support to single mothers and single-parent households can be possible.

“We must tune society in such a way as to treat all children, regardless whether they come from two-parent or single-parent families, and all mothers equally,” Putin said at a meeting with his confidants on Monday, December 10.

“A new life is a miracle and therefore it is God’s will, and we must feel happy for the mother and her baby,” the president said. Her admitted, “It’s obvious that it is more difficult for them [single mothers] than for two-parent families.”

He said that the programme of support for parents with a third child in regions with a low birth rate will become operational next year.

“We can also think about support for mothers who raise children alone,” he added.
