Knife-wielding man detained in Moscow after attacking police officer

A law enforcement source, in turn, said that the police officer had stopped the man for a document check. The attacker was detained on the spot

MOSCOW, December 15. /TASS/. A knife-wielding man has been detained in downtown Moscow after he attacked a police officer, Spokesperson for the Moscow branch of the Russian Investigative Committee told TASS on Saturday.

A criminal investigation has been launched against the attacker, Ivanova added.

According to the spokesperson, on the night of December 14, an on-duty police officer was attacked by a knife-wielding man near an apartment building on Lesnaya Street. "The attacker attempted to stab the police officer in the heart but thankfully, his uniform provided protection and his life is not in danger," Ivanova said.

A law enforcement source, in turn, said that the police officer had stopped the man for a document check. The attacker was detained on the spot.
