Strikes conducted by US and its allies undermine negotiations on Syria - Russian envoy

Alexander Lukashevich said that the US, the UK and France have conducted an armed and unprovoked attack

VIENNA, April 15. /TASS/. The attack of the US and its allies against Syria has undermined negotiations on settlement of the situation in this country, Russian Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Alexander Lukashevich said on Saturday over an attack carried out by the US, the UK and France against Syria.

"The US, the UK and France have conducted an armed and unprovoked attack, not giving any chance to diplomacy and undermining work of negotiations formats on the settlement of the situation in Syria. Having vested themselves with the right to carry out an investigation, declare a verdict and administer justice, they didn’t wait for findings of the OPCW investigation and even tried to hamper it by their actions," Lukashevich explained.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, warplanes and warships of the US, the UK and France conducted a missile strike over Syria’s military and civil infrastructural facilities on Saturday from 03:42 to 05:10 Moscow time. According to the ministry, Syria’s air defenses shot down 71 out of 103 cruise missiles. Washington, London and Paris stated that the strikes are a response to the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma on April 7. Representatives from the Russian Reconciliation Center for the Opposing Sides examined Douma on April 9, but found no traces of the use of chemical weapons there.
