GENEVA, April 15. /TASS/. Escalation of tensions in Syria over the US, UK and France’s attacks will be discussed on Monday, April 16, in Geneva at an urgent session of the International Syria Support Group's (ISSG) Ceasefire Task Force (CTF). The session will be convened at Russia’s initiative, Russian Permanent Mission to the UN branch and other international organizations in Geneva told TASS on Saturday.
"We plan to hold a CTF session on Monday. It will be carried out at Russia’s initiative," spokeswoman for the Russian mission Olga Zhigalova said.
The CTS was established by the decision of the International Syria Support Group. It usually convenes its sessions weekly on Wednesdays or Thursdays and involves diplomats from more than two dozens of countries.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the US, UK and France’s warplanes and warships carried out a missile strike over Syria’s military and civil infrastructural facilities from 03:42 Moscow time to 05:10. According to the agency, Syrian air defenses shot down 71 out of 103 cruise missiles. Earlier Washington, London and Paris stated that the strikes are a response to the alleged use of chemical weapons in the Syrian city of Douma on April 7. Representatives from the Russian Reconciliation Center for the Opposing Sides examined Douma on April 9, but found no trace of the use of chemical weapons there.
