Georgia agreed with relevant Swiss proposals on October 27

TBILISI, November 3 (Itar-Tass) —— If Russia agrees with a Swiss compromising variant of an agreement for Russia’s entry in the World Trade Organization (WTO) “all technical procedures of Russian-Georgian negotiations should be completed by November 10, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze told reporters on Thursday. Kapanadze, who heads the Georgian delegation at the negotiations with Russia, departed for Switzerland on Thursday morning to participate in the last round of negotiations.

The deputy foreign minister told reporters at the Tbilisi airport that according to available reports Russia agreed with the Swiss proposals. “We learnt about Russia’s position from the press. If Russia really agreed with a Swiss-mediated project some technical aspects are left to resolve to complete Georgian-Russian negotiations for Russia’s accession in the WTO. All should be completed before November 10,” Kapanadze stated.

He elaborated that Swiss proposals envisage a two-way monitoring over the freight traffic between Russia and Georgia.” First of all, international observers are expected to be deployed at the start and in the end of the trade corridors between the countries and an electronic data exchange system should be created.

After Russia’s entry in the World Trade Organization Russia and Georgia will have an international freight monitoring in three trading corridors, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze, who heads the Georgian delegation at the negotiations with Russia, said on Thursday.

Before the departure for Switzerland to participate in the last round of negotiations Kapanadze told reporters in Tbilisi that “there will be three trading corridors between the countries with international observers deployed at the entry and at the exit of these corridors.”

The first corridor begins on the Psou River and ends in the town of Zugdidi, whereas “international observers will be deployed on the Psou River and will control all cargoes at the entry to this trading corridor,” Kapanadze said. The second corridor begins north of the Roki tunnel and ends in the Georgian town of Gori, the third trading corridor will have an entry at the Russian border checkpoint Verkhny Lars and the exit at the Georgian border checkpoint Kazbegi.
