Lavrov to focus on war on terror, Syria at talks with Austrian top diplomat on April 20

MOSCOW, April 12. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold talks with Austrian counterpart Karin Kneissl on April 20, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.

The foreign ministers are due to focus on how to join efforts against international terrorism and to resolve the Syria crisis, she added.

"While considering pressing global issues, the Russian side is planning to focus on tasks of joining efforts for an effective backlash against international terrorism and for Syria settlement," she said.

"In this context [we] are planning to share views on developments in crisis spots in the Middle East and North Africa. Besides, cooperation on European platforms will be discussed, in particular the current state of affairs and prospects for cooperation with the Council of the European Union in the light of Austria’s Presidency in that body in the second half of 2018," Zakharova said.

The diplomat pointed out that the two foreign ministers would be discussing "topical issues on the Russian-Austrian agenda, including a schedule of coming bilateral contacts, as well as trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties with the emphasis on Year of Music and Culture Routes due to be held this year."

Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl will visit Moscow on a working visit on April 19-20.
