CHERKESSK, April 11. /TASS/. Almost 10,000 drug trafficking-related crimes have been uncovered in the North Caucasus in 2017, which is 20% more than last year, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev said.

"Almost 10,000 drug-related crimes were uncovered on the region's territory, a 20% increase," Patrushev said at a meeting in Cherkessk related to national security issues in the North Caucasus.

"More than 600 kg of narcotic and psychotropic substances have been seized," the Security Council chief highlighted.

In general, the North Caucasus implemented measures directed at boosting the effectiveness of interagency cooperation in preventing and stamping out drug trafficking, Patrushev noted.
