MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, on the victory in presidential elections in Egypt, the Kremlin press service said on Monday after a telephone conversation between the two leaders initiated by the Russian side.

The sides "reiterated their commitment to further development of mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres, including the energy, production and transport sectors," the Kremlin said.

"In view of the upcoming Russia-Turkey-Iran summit in Ankara, the two leaders discussed the issues of Syrian settlement and the general situation in the Middle East, in particular, the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. They noted that their countries have either similar or close positions on these matters. The conversation was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere," the Kremlin said.

Egypt’s election commission said earlier on Monday, al-Sisi swept to victory at Egypt’s presidential election on March 26-28 to be reelected for his second term in office. Al-Sisi scored 97.08% of the vote. His only rival, leader of the El-Ghad party Moussa Mostafa Moussa, won 2.92% of votes.
