Moscow warns against freezing of Russian state assets in US

The move may trigger further serious degradation of bilateral relations, the Russian Foreign Ministry says

MOSCOW, March 29. /TASS/. Arrest of Russian state assets in US will bring about a further serious degradation of relations between Moscow and Washington, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday after a visit by US Ambassador Jon Huntsman, who had been summoned for explanations.

"Jon Huntsman was asked to provide explanations for his own statements on a possible freezing of Russian state assets in the US," the ministry said.

"The American side has been warned the materialization of this threat will bring about a further serious degradation of our relations and will be fraught with harsh aftermaths for global stability."

Tit-for-tat measures

Russia will take additional measures in the event of new hostile moves against its diplomatic missions, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

"The ambassador was told that in the event of continued hostile moves against the Russian diplomatic and consular missions in the US, additional measures will be taken against the personnel and facilities of the US Embassy and Consulates General in Russia," the ministry noted.

"The US authorities encouraging and fomenting a smear campaign against our country were offered to reconsider their approach and stop reckless actions to ruin bilateral relations."
