Date for Syrian National Dialogue Congress not set yet — Kremlin

The next congress meeting may take place in Russia’s Sochi on December 29-30

MOSCOW, December 21. /TASS/. A date for the Syrian National Dialogue Congress has not been set yet, there are no plans to artificially accelerate this process, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

When commenting on media reports, which said that the Congress may take place in Russia’s Sochi on December 29-30 and involve a delegation of the Syrian Kurds, Peskov said that "there is still no decision on dates." "In this case no one wants to somehow artificially accelerate the process so that the Congress is held before the end of the year. No dates have been set yet," the Kremlin spokesman added.

Russia earlier put forward an initiative to convene the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in the Black Sea resort of Sochi. The date for the congress and the final list of its participants have not been set yet. Moscow has stressed many times that the Congress is not an alternative to the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva, but is aimed at facilitating the Geneva process.
