Putin’s campaign team yet to be formed — Kremlin spokesman

The Russian presidential election campaign officially kicked off on Monday

MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet formed his campaign team to make preparations for the presidential election due in March 2018, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"No campaign team has been formed yet, the president has not decided who will head it," Pekskov said. "We will inform you as soon as decisions are made," he told reporters.

On December 14, while addressing his annual news conference, Putin said that he would run for president as an independent candidate. He added that candidates to lead his campaign team were under consideration.

"I would like them [members of the campaign team] to be respected people, whom the country knows well and who sincerely support the policies that have been pursued in the past years," Putin said.

The Russian presidential election campaign officially started on Monday, three months before the voting day. The presidential election is set to be held on March 18, 2018.
