Russian, Libyan diplomats to discuss intra-Libyan settlement on December 11-13 - ministry

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Moscow does not take any side in the intra-Libyan conflict

MOSCOW, December 10. /TASS/. Foreign Minister of Libya’s Government of National Accord Mohamed Taher Siala on December 11-13 will meet in Moscow Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss the Libyan settlement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

"We plan during the upcoming talks to discuss in detail the problem of the intra-Libyan settlement in line with implementation of agreements between Chairman of the Presidential Council Fayez al-Sarraj and Commander of the Libyan National Army Khalifa Haftar about the changes to the Skhirat Political Agreement of December 17, 2015, as well as the "action plan" of the UN’s Libya envoy, Ghassan Salame, approved on the margins of the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly on September 20, 2017," the Foreign Ministry said.

According to the statement, Moscow does not take any side in the intra-Libyan conflict. "Our principle position is the Libyans should decide future of their country," the ministry said. "We consider counter-productive the attempts to impose ready solutions to them."

"The basis of our approaches to the intra-Libyan reconciliation are the principles like support for the inclusive dialogue, minding interests of all major political forces, tribal and regional groups in Libya, without external interference," the Foreign Ministry said.
