Russia and EU have no reasonable alternative to cooperation, envoy says

Russia’s envoy addressed the European Russian Forum in the European Parliament

BRUSSELS, December 4. /TASS/. Russia and the European Union have no reasonable alternative to cooperation and the integration of the potentials, which supplement each other, Russia’s Ambassador to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said on Monday.

Russia’s envoy spoke at the European Russian Forum in the European Parliament. The international expert meeting titled: The 2017 European Union and the 1917 Russian Revolution: Unlearnt Lessons" is being held for the 11th time this year.

"I’m convinced that in the contemporary, dynamic, highly competitive and, unfortunately, far from safe world, Russia and the European Union, which objectively supplement each other, have no reasonable alternative to cooperation and the integration of their potentials," the envoy said.

"We hope that common sense and political foresight of our European partners will help bring our relations out of the deadlock and allow them to embark upon the path of a constructive dialogue filled with the spirit of true good neighborliness and openness," he said.

The Russian envoy said he was confident that the ideas formulated by the participants in the European Russian forum "will make their contribution to strengthening trust and normalizing relations between Russia and the European Union and will contribute to a de-politicized understanding, free from ideological layers and clich·s, of the events of not only a century ago but also of yesterday and of today."
