MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Moscow strongly condemns the major terrorist attack in Egypt and is prepared for stepping up anti-terrorist cooperation with Cairo, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

"We strongly condemn the barbaric crime in Sinai, Egypt and reaffirm Russia’s high-principled rejection and condemnation of any terrorist attacks regardless of the motives of their ideological masterminds and perpetrators," the Foreign Ministry said. "We are prepared for stepping up cooperation with Egypt and other responsible members of the international community in giving an effective rebuff to the terrorist threat."

"We declare our full solidarity with the leadership and people of Egypt in their resolute struggle against terrorism and extremism," the Foreign Ministry said in a commentary. "We offer sincere condolences to the families of victims and wish early recovery to the survivors."

Moscow is certain that terrorists "will fail to intimidate the population or fill the hearts of the people of friendly Egypt with fear and insecurity about the future."

The Foreign Ministry addressed Russians currently in Egypt with a fresh reminder to act with caution and steer clear of areas where the risk of terrorist attacks was high.

On Friday, the Al Rawdha mosque 30 kilometers away from El Arish, on the border with Gaza, came under a terrorist attack. First the militants exploded a bomb inside and then opened indiscriminate fire on people trying to flee the scene. According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office the attack left 235 dead and more than a hundred others injured.
