Kremlin: Normandy Four leaders' summit date may be set after foreign ministers’ talks

Earlier, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Angela Merkel to discuss the current escalation in southeastern Ukraine

MOSCOW, February 10. /TASS/. A date and venue for a meeting of the Normandy Four (Russia, Germany, France and Ukraine) leaders could be appointed only after talks between the foreign ministers of these four nations, Russian president’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Friday.

"First, it will be a ministers’ meeting and after that it will be clear [about the leaders’ meeting]," he said.

Earlier in the week, Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss the current escalation in southeastern Ukraine.

"The leaders agreed to build up diplomatic effort to promote peace settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. In particular, they agreed to organize contacts in the Normandy format between the foreign ministers and the leader’s aides and after that to continue discussion of the situation at the top level," the Kremlin press service said.
