Russian diplomat, Syrian opposition representative discuss peace process

The sides emphasized the importance of an early restart of the intra-Syrian dialog

MOSCOW, August 29. /TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, who is also president’s special envoy for the Middle East and Africa, met on Tuesday with the deputy secretary general of the Syrian Committee of the Democratic Patriotic Action, Meys Kredi, to discuss prospects for restarting intra-Syrian negotiations, the Russian Foreign Ministry reports.

They "extensively exchanged opinions on a set of issues concerning the settlement of the Syrian crisis on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012, relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and decisions of the International Syria Support Group," the ministry said.

"Within this context, they emphasized the importance of an early restart of the intra-Syrian dialog without preliminary conditions and with the participation of a broad range of the Syrian opposition in the interests of building a reformed and territorially integral Syrian state, guaranteeing the rights of all citizens in the country," the report said.

The ministry said Kredi had arrived in Moscow for a working trip.
