MOSCOW, June 3. /TASS/. Russia’s interior ministry is ready to double the Russian peacekeeping force under the auspices of the United Nations, the ministry’s head Vladimir Kolokoltsev told Rossiya-24 TV on Friday.
"The interior ministry is prepared to double our peacekeeping contingent in those countries where it is taking part to make its contribution to the UN mission on supporting peace in any states where this is needed," Kolokoltsev stressed.
The first meeting of police chiefs from the UN members-states is due to take place in the organization’s headquarters in New York on Friday. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said more than 100 police leaders from around the world will attend the forum.
Kolokoltsev will take part in the forum organized by the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations. The minister will focus on the participation of Russian police officers in UN peacekeeping missions and the need to unite efforts in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.
