Medvedev will meet with participants in the Crimea primaries, "United Russia"

MOSCOW, May 22. /TASS/. Russia’s Prime Minister and Chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev will be on a working visit to Crimea in the next three days, the Cabinet’s press service reported.

On Sunday, in Sevastopol, Medvedev is to hold a meeting with the participants of the preliminary voting of the United Russia. The candidates from the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol city will participate.

On Sunday, the United Russia party conducts a preliminary vote (primaries) to select party candidates who will participate in election to the State Duma, lower house of parliament this fall.

The essence of early voting is that everyone - a member of the United Russia, or an independent candidate takes part in the open rating vote and during that procedure receives evaluation from ordinary voters.

Going through the procedure of preliminary vote is obligatory for inclusion in the list of candidates for election to the State Duma, the regional and local authorities.

However a person who is proposed by the chairman of the party and approved by the party’s Congress can enter the final list of candidates bypassing the primaries procedure.

Nomination of candidates, who participate in the primaries this year, was held from February 15 to April 10, their registration was completed on April 15.

The Congress of United Russia will approve the final list of candidates in June.
