Chinese leader sends New Year greetings to Russian president

BEIJING, December 31. /TASS/. Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent a message of greetings to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the coming New Year, the press service of the Chinese government reported on Thursday.

"On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, I extend sincere congratulations to President Putin and the Russian people and wish (them) all the best," the cable says.

"I hope that in the new year we will, hand in hand, vigorously develop the concept of peace and friendship between China and Russia, boost mutual political confidence and increase each other’s support," the message says. Xi Jinping expressed the hope that "the high level of political relations between the two countries would transform into the mutually advantageous cooperation, which will bring even greater results."

Vladimir Putin too sent greetings to the Chinese leader on the occasion of the New Year and in connection with the coming Spring Festival, in which he noted that the outgoing year had been marked by a number of landmark events in the relations between Russia and China. "The joint celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in WWII contributed to strengthening the traditional friendship between the Russian and Chinese peoples. The cross-years of friendly youth exchanges in 2014 and 2015 were a great success," says a Kremlin press service statement released earlier. Putin noted that he looked forward to continuing the constructive work to further develop the entire range of the Russian-Chinse ties.
