Unprecedented level of telephone terrorism recorded in Russian presidential election — CEC

"The entire Russian electoral system was mobilized to the utmost," Ella Pamfilova noted

MOSCOW, March 21. /TASS/. An unprecedented level of telephone terrorism was recorded during the Russian presidential election, Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairperson Ella Pamfilova told a meeting of the CEC.

"The next element of terror is telephone terrorism. It was simply on an unprecedented scale. We were preparing for it; we expected that it could be of such a scope," she said. According to Pamfilova, the CEC also forecasted that there would be more cases of pouring green dye into ballot boxes or burning ballot papers. "These were all isolated episodes, in fact a larger-scale action was expected," the CEC chairperson pointed out.

"I want to give credit since we worked proactively. The entire Russian electoral system was mobilized to the utmost," Pamfilova added.

Voting in the Russian presidential election took place over three days on March 15-17. Incumbent President Vladimir Putin garnered 87.28% of the vote, according to data from the CEC. The turnout of 77.44% was the highest ever in Russia’s modern history.
