Nicaragua expresses solidarity with Russia after presidential election — vice president

Rosario Murillo noted that Managua intends to continue its cooperation with Moscow

MEXICO CITY, March 19. /TASS/. The Nicaraguan government expresses its solidarity with Russia after the country’s presidential election, Vice President Rosario Murillo said.

"Of course, we have confirmed our unwavering solidarity and support [to the President of the Russian Federation and the Russian people] in all of the just causes that they have [consistently] represented and are leading throughout the world," the 19digital news portal quoted her as saying.

Murillo noted that Managua intends to continue its cooperation with Moscow. "We welcome these times of new achievements, when we hold meetings, conduct dialogue and strive for fraternal relations [between our peoples]," the vice president stressed.

On March 18, a delegation of international observers from Nicaragua stated that the electoral process in the Russian Federation was conducted at a high level.

Russia held its presidential election on March 15-17, which was the country’s first three-day election and the first to offer voters the option of remote electronic voting, which was available in 29, or about one-third, of the country's regions. According to the Russian Central Election Commission, after 100% of all vote tally protocols were processed, incumbent President Vladimir Putin had garnered 87.28% of the votes with a record-high turnout for modern Russia of 77.44% of all eligible voters casting ballots.
