MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. All inquiries into the alleged influence Russia had on US President Donald Trump’s policies afoot in Washington have yielded nothing but laughable results, eventually discrediting themselves, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media on Tuesday.
"There have been so many investigations like these that their significance has been devalued," he noted. "In general, they look less and less serious. It is most important that none of the previously launched investigations have yielded any serious findings. All of them were laughable."
Asked for a comment about the start of yet another such inquiry, Peskov said: "We have no opportunity or wish to make comments on each newly-launched investigation, initiated by whatever group of legislators in the United States. By and large, this is perhaps none of our business. It is an entirely US affair."
On Monday, the House of Representatives’ Judiciary Committee launched a new investigation of Donald Trump’s election campaign, the activities of his team following the election victory and Trump’s businesses, CNN reported. The probe will focus on alleged obstruction of justice, ‘collusion’ with Russia and abuse of power. Any information obtained in this way may be used as a reason for launching potential impeachment procedures.
The Judiciary Committee began its probe at a time when another investigation, conducted by special counsel Robert Mueller is coming to an end. For nearly two years, Mueller has been trying to dig up anything tangible behind the rumors of ‘attempts’ at swaying the US election in 2016 and whether the head of state committed any wrongdoing during his election campaign or presidency. Trump and his aides have repeatedly dismissed all suspicion of unlawful contacts with Russian officials during the election campaign. Moscow, too, has repeatedly denied all the allegations thrown around it had tried to influence the outcome of the US presidential election.
