West’s desire to dominate caused troubles for entire humanity — Russian diplomat

The deputy foreign minister said Russia’s delegation in Munich would seek to explain the inadmissibility of this approach to other participants

MUNICH, February 15. /TASS/. The Western powers’ desire to dominate in the global politics has caused troubles for the entire humanty, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told reporters in the run-up to the Munich Security Conference.

The senior Russian diplomat said the Russian side had examined a document, which the forum’s organizers prepared for its opening. According to Ryabkov, the document says that the "the era of rivalry of superpowers is now upon us, and that the US and the Western group of nations have the upper hand over the group which includes China, Russia and so on."

"It seems to me that this wording, this vision of the balance of power on the international arena is superficial and speculative," he said. "It is faulty, because it gives away its authors’ obsession with the West and its central role."

"The entire post-war model, based on the international law, on profound understanding of lessons taught by World War II, on inadmissibility of attempts to unleash another global conflict is being eroded and put into question by those who believe that the time is ripe to establish an indisputable leadership and global domination of the West," the Russian diplomat continued.

The deputy minister said Russia’s delegation in Munich would seek to explain the inadmissibility of this approach to other participants.

"There won’t necessarily be many people who would listen. But it’s their problem, and those problems would keep piling up," he added.
