Russia suggests discussing interference in Venezuela’s affairs at UN SC

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said that US attempt to discuss the situation in Venezuela is a gross violation of authority of a member of the Security Council

THE UNITED NATIONS, January 26. /TASS/. Russia has summited its own agenda of interference in states’ affairs to a United Nations Security Council meeting, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said on Saturday in an address to the UN Security Council emergency meeting.

"The Russian Federation cannot back the attempt of our American colleagues to discuss the situation in Venezuela," the ambassador said. "Submitting an issue in this wording is also a gross violation of authority of a member of the Security Council, what is more, of a permanent one."

"Venezuela does not pose any threat to peace and security," he said. "What does pose a threat to peace and security is aggressive steps of the United States and their allies aimed to topple the legitimately elected president," Nebenzia is convinced.

According to the diplomat, the UN Security Council should consider this crisis "in the context of a threat to Venezuela.".
