No confirmation yet of Kim Jong Un’s plans to attend Eastern Economic Forum — Kremlin

The Eastern Economic Forum is scheduled to take place in Vladivostok on September 11-13

MOSCOW, August 17. /TASS/. Moscow has not received a confirmation from Pyongyang that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will attend the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia’s Far Eastern city of Vladivostok, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We haven’t received a confirmation from Pyongyang yet," he said when asked to comment on North Korean media reports saying that Kim Jong-un had decided to attend the event.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting with the North Korean leader conveyed an invitation to him to visit Russia. The Eastern Economic Forum was mentioned as a fine occasion for such a visit. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev said earlier that a North Korean delegation would take part in the forum.

The Eastern Economic Forum is an annual event aimed at facilitating the development of Russia’s Far East and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. The next forum is scheduled to take place in Vladivostok on September 11-13. Delegations from China, South and North Korea and Japan have already announced plans to participate in the event.
