Russia, Mexico work on package of important bilateral deals — ambassador

The ambassador described the package as "a serious, solid set of agreements which is at the stage of preparation"

MEXICO, August 15. /TASS/. Russia and Mexico are currently working on a package of important bilateral agreements on various aspects of cooperation, Russia’s ambassador to Mexico, Viktor Koronelli, told reporters on Tuesday.

"Quite a lot of serious and important documents are currently on our bilateral agenda," said the ambassador, who took office on August 3. "This includes agreements on air traffic, sea navigation, crime prevention, as well as a full-fledged visa-free travel agreement and an interstate extradition deal."

The ambassador described the package as "a serious, solid set of agreements which is at the stage of preparation."

"In some areas, the progress is quick, but, regretfully, there is certain stagnation in other aspects. It all requires careful work, and this is what I am going to do," he said.

Koronelli said the Russian transport ministry has prepared another version of the air traffic deal, which should now be examined by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"I think that in the near future this document will be forwarded to our Mexican partners either via us or via the Mexican Embassy in Moscow, and, therefore, a certain new impetus will be given to this process," he added.

He expressed hope that "continuity will prevail" in Russian-Mexican relations under the new administration, which takes office on December 1.
