Russia’s State Duma to consider government's bill on pension changes

The bill on pension system changes, in particular, includes a gradual increase of the retirement age to 65 for men (by 2028) and 63 for women (by 2034)

MOSCOW, July 19. /TASS/. The Russian State Duma at a meeting on Thursday will consider in the first reading the bill on changes in the pension system. The initiative was submitted to the State Duma by the Russian government on June 16.

On Tuesday, the Labor Committee recommended to the State Duma to pass the bill on the pension maneuver in the first reading, suggesting that it be considered at a chamber session on July 19, after which the Duma Council approved the date proposed by the committee.

The bill on pension system changes, in particular, includes a gradual increase of the retirement age to 65 for men (by 2028) and 63 for women (by 2034). Currently, the retirement age for men and women is 60 and 55 years respectively.

According to the government proposal, increasing the retirement age will be carried out gradually starting from 2019 and will not affect the current pensioners - around 46.5 million people, they will continue to receive all previously assigned pension and social benefits according to the old mechanism.
