Putin thanks Merkel for timely and useful negotiations

The Russian leader cited the evolving cooperation between Russia and Germany in the sphere of humanities and culture

SOCHI, May 18. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked German Chancellor Angela Merkel for meaningful and frank negotiations.

"I would like to thank Madam Chancellor for a meaningful and candid exchange of opinions, which has been very timely and useful," the Russian leader said, following the talks with Merkel.

The Russian leader cited the evolving cooperation between Russia and Germany in the sphere of humanities and culture. "This year marks the end of the Year of regional and municipal partners of both countries, the Year of science and education partnerships is being developed, as well as a major concert program the "Russian seasons" in 2019," Putin said. He noted that "active contacts are being maintained through civil societies within the framework of the Petersburg Dialogue, the Potsdam meetings, the German-Russian Forum."
