MOSCOW, April 28. /TASS/. Russia’s military police have begun patrolling the settlements of Ruheiba, Jeiroud and Nasiriyah in Syria’s Eastern Qalamoun, chief of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Opposing Parties in Syria Yuri Yevtushenko said on Friday.
"To prevent provocations, ensure security for civilians and maintain law and order, units of the Russian military police have organized patrolling in the settlements of Ruheiba, Jeiroud and Nasiriyah," he said.
According to the Russian officer, chiefs of administrations in Eastern Qalamoun neighborhoods are working to raise awareness of members of illegal armed groups who are willing to surrender arms and undergo a status normalization procedure.
"During the past day, as many as 1,871 people settled their statuses under the control of the Russian reconciliation center and Russian military police units," he noted.
The Russian reconciliation center said on Thursday a six-day operation to liberate Eastern Qalamoun from illegal armed groups was over.
