KRASNODAR, January 10. /ITAR-TASS/. A one-thousand-strong combined children’s choir, which will sing at a closing ceremony of the Sochi Olympics, includes 90 choristers representing the Southern Federal District, the regional culture ministry told Itar-Tass on Friday.
All members of the choir had several rehearsals in their districts on January 3 to 6. Artistic Director of a famous Kuban Cossack Choir Viktor Zakharchenko has conducted the choir from the Southern Federal District. The whole one-thousand-strong choir came to the city of St. Petersburg on January 7 for a rehearsal with a symphony orchestra conducted by Artistic Director of the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev at the grand stage of the theater.All choristers will come to the Winter Olympic capital of Sochi for final rehearsals before the performances at the Olympics on February 15. “It is clearly reported that the choir will perform at a closing ceremony of the Olympics, but it is still a secret what they will sing,” the press service of the Krasnodar territorial authorities reported. “Opera star, native of Krasnodar, Anna Netrebko will perform solo parties,” her producer Vladislav Monastyrsky said.
The combined children’s choir was established at the initiative of the all-Russia choir society with the support of the country’s government in a contest of talented young singers from all Russian regions. In the future the choir will perform in different cultural projects, festivals, international events and in the celebrations on the occasions of national holidays and memorial dates.
