Four people in serious condition after gas leak causes explosion in Paris bakery - TV

According to BFM TV Channel, all the four injured persons are the firefighters

PARIS, January 12. /TASS/. A gas leak at a bakery in Rue de Trevise in central Paris and the ensuing explosion seriously injured four people, BFM TV Channel reported on Saturday.

All the four injured persons are the firefighters, the TV Channel said.

As an eye-witness earlier told the TV Channel, the firefighting vehicle arrived at the place where the bakery is located before the explosion. According to preliminary data, the firefighters were summoned by one of the residents due to a strong gas smell.

According to Paris Prosecutor Remy Heitz 12 people were seriously injured. The health condition of two injured persons causes the doctors’ special concerns, the prosecutor said, adding that he had initiated the probe into the causes of the incident.

"At the current stage, we believe that the explosion was caused by a gas leak," the Paris prosecutor said.

As French Interior Minister Christophe Castane said, "the consequences of the gas explosion are very grave." Two civil defense helicopters made a landing near Rue de Trevise for the urgent evacuation of those injured.

The gas exploded in the bakery located in the lower floor of a residential building. The explosion wave smashed all the premises of the bakery that did not work at that time and made the walls collapse. A danger exists that the whole building may collapse.

A powerful household gas explosion in the Urals city of Magnitogorsk on December 31 made a section of a ten-storey apartment block collapse, killing 39 people. A total of 18 people, including two children, were rescued during a search and rescue operation, which lasted four days.
