Zara made clothing export contracts with Russian companies — Deputy Minister

Brands owned by Zara's parent Inditex signed contracts for goods export to Spain with 11 factories in Russia

MOSCOW, March 22. /TASS/. Clothing retailer Zara affiliated with Spain’s Inditex, for the first time made contracts for supplies of clothing and footwear made in Russia to Spain, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Evtukhov told reporters on Thursday.

"A number of brands of the Inditex group of companies is currently working with 11 factories, with which contracts for goods export to Spain were signed. Orders were placed for contracted manufacturing of goods in Russia, with staff trained under the cooperation format for Inditex," the official said.

Inditex S.A. [the parent company of Zara], Massimo Dutti, Oysho and Tempe [footwear producer] are among companies that awarded contracts to Russian factories, Evtukhov noted.

The Russian Ministry in cooperation with the Zara’s representative office in Russia developed a roadmap for implementation of the project on production orders placement at Russian light industry enterprises by the Spanish company in March 2017, the official said. "Representatives of Zara examined all the offers of Russian light industry companies within the framework of roadmap implementation and held meetings with knitwear, garment, leather and footwear makers and companies specializing in production of bags and other accessories," Evtukhov noted.

"Exports under the Inditex order actually amounted to €2 mln as of the end of this March," he added.
