Russian Finance Ministry may liberalize silver market

A proposal to cancel government supervision for silver products may be put forward, according to an official

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. The Russian Finance Ministry can present a proposal of canceling government supervision of silver items with the weight below 100 grams, Deputy Minister Alexei Moiseev told reporters on Friday.

"I have an idea that I agreed verbally with all stakeholder authorities - to significantly liberalize the silver market. We will probably put forward a proposal of canceling government supervision for silver products with the weight provisionally less than 100 grams," the deputy minister said.

Government supervision is currently exercised over silver items with weight of 3 and above grams, while assaying and government platemark application for jewelry and other silver items below 3 grams is made on a voluntary basis, he added.
