Putin to visit Franz Josef Land to inspect ecological situation in Russia’s Arctic

Putin will meet with the personnel of the Russian Arctic national park who will tell him about the cleanup operations on the six most ecologically affected islands of the archipelago

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Vladimir Putin will visit  Alexandra Land, an island of the Franz Josef Land Arctic Archipelago, on March 29 to inspect the ecological situation after the cleanup operation conducted following his previous trip to the island in April 2010, the Kremlin press service said:

"The head of state will also speak with the personnel of the Omega field base in the Russian Arctic national park who will tell him about the cleanup operations on the six most ecologically affected islands of the archipelago, as well as about measures to preserve biological diversity in the Arctic zone and prospects for development of tourism."
