MUNICH, March 21. /TASS/. BMW plans to make a decision on construction of a plant in Russia’s Kaliningrad over the year, Board of Management Member for Production Oliver Zipse told reporters on Tuesday.
"We wanted to invest ourselves and create our own production facility but the market situation changed then and sanction complications were in place. This period has already passed; the economy is stabilizing now. We will decide on further action in coming 12 months," Zipse said.
The company believes in the Russian market and considers that Kaliningrad is a suitable place for its production facility, he added.
BMW cars are produced on a contracted basis at Kaliningrad’s Avtotor production facilities since 1999. The German automaker planned to build a full-cycle plant but postponed the decision for an indefinite term in 2015 because of the recession in Russia.
