Gas blowout resulted in fire outbreak in a well of Guneshli offshore field in Azerbaijan, 69 people were evacuated

BAKU, September 26. /TASS/. Gas blowout resulted in fire outbreak in a well of Guneshli offshore field in Azerbaijan, State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergencies said in a joint statement on Monday.

"Gas blowout growing into the gas gusher occurred on September 26 during the repair work on Well 71 in the shallow portion of Guneshli field. Inflammation followed by fire occurred during gusher killing work at 18.00 pm local time (17.00 Moscow time)," the statement says.

A total of 69 people on board the platform were evacuated to the fire-fighting vessel. "Activities are now underway to kill the open gusher in cooperation with relevant institutions," the statement reports.

According to available data Guneshli field provides up to 65% of SOCAR’s total oil production.
