Mercedes in talks with Moscow on new plant in Russia

ST. PETERSBURG, August 11. /TASS/. Mercedes is in talks with the Russian Government on beginning construction of the company’s car manufacturing plant in Russia, Mercedes-Benz RUS General Director Yan Madeya told journalists on Thursday.

"At the moment we are in negotiations with Government officials on certain framework conditions. We want to develop coordinated solutions," he said. He declined to give details of the future production before the official decision was announced, not specifying the date.

TASS reported in June TASS with reference to the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, parameters of the agreement to start production of Mercedes cars in Russia (brand owned by German manufacturer Daimler) and concluding a special investment contract with the manufacturer should be determined in the near future. He noted that the Ministry expected Mercedes to make a decision in the near future.

Earlier it was reported that the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade pre-approved Daimler’s draft contract for production of Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the Moscow region. The company intended to sign a special investment contract within the organization site.

Daimler aims at localization of production in Russia. German carmaker considered various grounds, including St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and the Moscow region. In case production starts, 5 passenger cars of series S, E, ML, GL and A will be manufactured in Russia.
