In case of approval Nabiullina will replace at this post Sergei Ignatyev, who heads the Central Bank of Russia since March 2002. The term of his powers expires on June 24, 2013.
The State Duma can consider the candidacy of Elvira Nabiullina for the post of the chairman of the Central Bank of Russia on Friday, March 22, a source in the lower house of Russian parliament told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin submitted the issue of an approval of Nabiullina in the specific State Duma committee, the State Duma department for public relations and cooperation with the media confirmed.
It is not ruled out that already on Thursday Nabiullina’s candidacy will be put up for a meeting of the State Duma Council and for a meeting of the lower house of Russian parliament on Friday.
Meanwhile, First Vice-Speaker of the State Duma from United Russia Alexander Zhukov could not name an exact date to consider the candidacy of Nabiullina.
“The concrete procedure exists to consider the candidates, who are nominated for the post of the Central Bank chairman. At first, the specific committees do this, then, certainly consultations in the factions will be held,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
“Now I cannot name an exact date. We have the date, when the tenure of the incumbent chairman of the Central Bank expires, we have some time before this,” Zhukov added.
