Moscow court okays $5 mln debt recovery from Google subsidiary for office lease

The Russian subsidiary of Google unilaterally terminated the contract by sending a notice to the renter

MOSCOW, February 2. /TASS/. The Ninth Arbitration Court of Appeal of Moscow has approved the recovery of about $5 mln debt from the Russian subsidiary of the US-based Google for office lease in Balchug Plaza business center, the Court says in its ruling.

"The ruling comes into force from the day of its approval and can be appealed within two months from the day of production in full with the Arbitration Court of the Moscow District," according to the document.

In September 2022, the Moscow Arbitration Court partly upheld the Balchug Plaza owner’s claims against the Russian subsidiary of Google concerning the debt under a tenancy agreement. Google entered into the tenancy deal with the management company of Balchug Plaza in 2010 until 2024.

The Russian subsidiary of Google unilaterally terminated the contract by sending a notice to the renter. According to docket papers, the Russian subsidiary of the US tech giant did not pay rent from April 1 to June 18, 2022, and a debt amassed from this.

In November 2022, the arbitration court of appeals also introduced the initial bankruptcy procedure against Google at the request of the company. The case on the merits is scheduled to be held on March 13, 2023. The tech giant’s accounts payable stood at 27 bln rubles ($385.4 mln), the court said in the ruling.
