Venezuela to purchase medicines, products in Russia

Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov reiterated that Moscow already sent to Venezuela the first batch of drugs in the amount of 7.5 tonnes

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Venezuela will purchase all the necessary products and drugs in Russia, Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said at a joint news conference after negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"President Nicolas Maduro gave very strict instructions on this account: the products that our nation needs and the medication that our nation needs will be purchased from Russia," she said.

Lavrov noted, for his part, that Moscow already received an additional list of drugs needed for the Venezuelan side. "We are studying it [the list] and elaborating organizational logistics details," he said.

The Russian foreign minister reiterated that Russia already sent to Venezuela the first batch of drugs weighing 7.5 tonnes. "This batch was sent at the expense of our contribution to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the project that the Pan American Health Organization is implementing," he explained.

Rodriguez said, for her part, that Caracas intends to develop the necessary industrial base with Russia’s support to provide all that is necessary for the Venezuelan population. "We will work on industrial investments to produce all that is necessary in our country with the help of the Russian Federation. This is good news for the world, good news for Russia and for Venezuela. We are strategic partners and are working for the benefit of the nations of our countries," she highlighted.
