French president not to attend Davos economic forum — Elysee Palace

French President Emmanuel Macron will not attend the World Economic Forum in Davos

PARIS, January 11. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron will not attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, BFM TV reported on Friday, citing a statement by Elysee Palace.

The trip was cancelled because of the state leader’s tight schedule, the presidential administration explained. The ongoing protests of the yellow vests movement in France and the start of the national debate on the operation of state institutes and democracy (will officially start on January 15 - TASS) were also named among possible reasons.

That said, the last day of Macron’s agenda published on the Elysee Palace website is January 11, Saturday.

The World Economic Forum will be held in Davos, Switzerland, on January 22-25, 2019. Apart from Macron, US President Donald Trump will not attend it either, as he tweeted on January 10. He stated that he cancelled his visit to the WEF due to the situation on the American-Mexican border, which does not allow the White House and the Congress to revive the partially suspended operation of the US government. The White House earlier stated that the American leader planned to go to Davos on January 21. His return to Washington was set for January 22.
