"Unique reserves of all key energy resources provide us with an opportunity at present to fully meet domestic demand for energy resources, while sound exports, particularly to countries of the European Union, Asia-Pacific Region and CIS, not merely bring significant revenues to Russia but also make it possible to remain one of main guarantors of global energy security," the head of state said.

Energy security issues are "extremely important and up-to-date," Putin said. "The energy sector has a special, strategic importance for our country," he added.
